Does it work?
Mostly. But SmugTug comes without promises. No promises that it always
works, no promises that you'll like it, and no promises that I'll keep doing
this. You're on your own. I'm trying to get feedback.
I want to download my friend's photos
OK. Fill in the form above: specify the URL of a SmugMug gallery, an email
address, and a photo size. SmugTug will send you an email with a link to a
zipfile that contains all the photos in the photo gallery.
I'm on SmugMug. How do I let my friends use this?
You don't have to do anything. Just send your friends to this page. If they
have the URL to your photo gallery and they have an email address, you're all
set.
Is this free?
For now, yes, but we might introduce some kind of pricing plan that will help
keep this service going. We'll always keep the first, say, X photos, or Y
megabytes free. The exact numbers are a work in progress.
Can people download an unlisted gallery?
Yes, but only if they have the URL to the unlisted gallery. This
is no more or less secure than the way it works in SmugMug now.
Can people download a password protected gallery?
Yes, but only if the gallery owner registers with SmugTug and explicitly grants
permission through account management. Beware, though, that this basically reduces the security of a password
protected (and possibly unlisted) SmugMug gallery to an unlisted gallery
(because the URL of the zipfile is unguessable). By using SmugTug you agree
that you are doing this at your own risk.
How long does it take?
It all depends on the size of the gallery and the number of requests that are
ahead of you in the queue. A small gallery with a handful of photos should be
done within 15 minutes (if there is nobody ahead of you). A large gallery
with several dozen photos might take a few hours. Requests that came in
before yours are handled first.
Will you send me a very large attachment? My account only allows 10GB email attachments!
No. SmugTug doesn't send you any attachments. SmugTug sends you a link to a
zipfile that you can download yourself.
How long will the zipfile be available?
24 hours.
If I give you my SmugMug password when I sign up, do you keep it?
Yes. Otherwise SmugTug can't access your password protected galleries. But
you can use SmugTug without giving it your password. In that case, SmugTug
will only be able to access your public (and unlisted) galleries.
You don't even have to sign up if that's all you want.
Are you affiliated with SmugMug?
No, but I love them.
How can I help?
Thanks for asking. You can help by clicking on one (or many) of the ads on
this page.
Should I get a SmugMug account to store my photos online?
Yes.
